Akari Ceiling Lamp
Considered light sculptures, these electrified versions of the traditional Japanese lantern were designed in an effort to revive Japan's paper lantern industry. The series, named Akari for the Japanese word for "light," as in illumination, was an immediate success. The lamp series has been represented in the permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art since the 1950s. Like the originals, they are made from handmade washi paper and bamboo ribbing, supported by a metal frame. In stock on November 24, 2013: 1 Akari 55D. Free shipping within the continental U.S.
